From Frustration to Clarity: Refining My Niche with TTRPGs
After a year of trial and error, I’ve finally found clarity by narrowing my focus and discovering the audience I’m meant to serve
For a long time, I struggled to grow an audience and create meaningful content. The problem? I had too many ideas and posted too many random things. From illustrations to writing to tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs)—I loved them all, but sharing them together made my content feel scattered and inconsistent. I didn’t know who I was creating for, and my audience didn’t know what to expect. This lack of focus left me feeling frustrated, stuck, and unable to grow.
After a year of trial and error, trying to make sense of my interests, I’ve finally found clarity. Nearing 2025, I’ve come to a solution: I’m positioning myself as a personal brand—a storyteller and illustrator for tabletop role-playing games. My focus is now clear. I’ll create content and products for people who love writing stories for their own adventures and those who enjoy playing TTRPGs.
This shift has been a game-changer. I’ve learned that having less to focus on gives you more direction. By narrowing my niche, I can serve a specific audience with confidence. There’s a saying: “If you’re selling to everyone, you’re selling to no one.” I now understand that trying to appeal to everyone was holding me back. Focusing on a niche allows me to connect deeply with the people who truly care about what I share.
As I head into 2025, my next step is to experiment with different types of content in my niche, gather data, and see what resonates most with my audience. I’m currently working on a playbook to guide my content strategy—something simple, repeatable, and effective. I’ll share more about this process soon.
After a year of trial and error, I finally feel like I’m on the right path. The frustration is behind me, and I’m excited to build a brand that connects with the people I want to serve.
