New Business Venture: Start Small and Keep It Simple
After a lot of trial and error—and feeling overwhelmed—I realized the best way forward is to start small and focus on fewer products.
It’s been a while since I wrote a newsletter. Honestly, I felt like I’d lost the purpose behind it. Initially, the goal was to share my creative business journey, but I thought that topic might be too boring. Recently, I realized I was focusing too much on building a brand or a following, instead of just sharing knowledge and experiences. So now, I’ve decided to write for myself first, and then for others.
For today’s newsletter, I want to share my new business venture. I’ve decided to narrow my focus and offer just a few services and products. My plan includes commissions, paper miniature figurines, and one-shot adventure campaigns.
Here’s how it breaks down:
Commissions: I’ll design characters and paper miniatures that can be printed and used in tabletop roleplaying games. I’ll also offer digital assets like character icons and transparent PNGs.
Pocket RPG: A printable roleplaying game people can download, print, and play solo.
Quick Quests: Another printable RPG, still in the works, that I’m experimenting with.
My creative business is simple and focused, which makes it easier to execute and market. My commissions and Pocket RPG are already 80% ready and will be the first products available for purchase. Quick Quests will follow once I’ve finished refining it.
My main goals are:
To provide fun products. I want to create games that inspire creativity, spark imagination, and encourage people to spend less time on screens.
To make a living. For this to become a full-time gig, it needs to generate enough income to pay the bills.
While tabletop games like these aren’t mainstream and are often seen as “nerdy,” I believe with the right branding and messaging, they can reach and positively impact a lot of people. If I love what I create, surely there are others in this world of 8 billion who will love it too.
There’s no harm in trying, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
